Hi Gang Show peeps,
Only 5 weeks left, and we're just back from the first rehearsal at the theatre. It's very exciting to walk into the theatre for the first time, knowing that in just a few short weeks, you'll be performing on that very stage. It's actually a little bit daunting too!
It went very well, although there were a few hiccups. The stage is a different size from what we're used to rehearsing in, and we don't have all the props or scenery on yet either, so it's a bit strange, but very soon it will start to feel like a proper show.
Next week is the first of our dress rehearsals. So far, our busy costume team have been working very hard behind the scenes, measuring us for this costume, fitting us for that costume, and even repairing clothes after unfortunate accidents at rehearsals. But their talents are often not noticed or appreciated until the 1st dress rehearsal, when the cast realises just how many costumes they have, and how many different items and accessories go with them.
We have a well stocked costume wardrobe (more like a hut!) and yet it never seems enough. We have a cast of 90 in the show this year, and with everyone appearing in at least 6 items, that's over 540 costumes alone!. Not to mention all the hats, scarves gloves, masks, hairbands and other accessories that may be needed!
And this all needs to be ready and organised before the dress rehearsals, so that when it comes to the show week, we are ready and comfortable and able to perform in our fantabulous outfits.
But despite all that hard work before hand, that is not the greatest talent of our costumes ladies. Somehow, in between the final rehearsal and the first show, a magical transformation comes over them, and they go from being 'costume ladies' which is already inherently amazing, to being 'dressing room ladies' which is super awesome wow!
Dressing room ladies, are the key to the show. Without dressing room ladies 90% of the cast probably wouldn't turn up on stage, and those that did would probably be in various stages of undress!
Dressing room ladies ensure that not only do we have the right costume for the right item, but also that we have all the right accessories and shoes on. They get our costumes for the next item ready (useful if we've got a quick change), pick up after us when we leave costumes thrown across the room (likely if we've had a quick change) and probably the most important job, get the interval ice creams!
We love our dressing room ladies; the dance team girls have nicknamed their dressing room lady 'Gang Show Mummy'! So as the show draws nearer and nearer, and the cast gets more and more excited, spare a thought for those lovely ladies who keep us dressed along the way!
Find out how we got on at our dress rehearsal next week! We might also take a sneak peak at the props and scenery section!
Tickets are selling out fast too! Go to the South Hill Park website to get them now!
And remember...
